After 170 episodes, the 28 manga volumes released so far do not provide enough material for a polished fifth season plot. Therefore it is currently not known whether and when the long-awaited 171st episode and thus the fifth season will start. Due to the break, however, it is clear: A few manga volumes must first be published before it can continue. 

Three to five volumes have to be published each year because it was first published in 2015. 

So we shouldn’t expect a fifth season before 2023 if the plot of the sequel is to be as polished as it has been so far. After all, seasons 1 and 2 each had 51 episodes, season 3 even 52. Significantly shorter was Only season 4 with 16 episodes.

The good news is that on Crunchyroll, all the 170 episodes of “Black Clover” can currently be streamed.
